Driving alongside navigator Baillie Farley of Horsham, Grayson competed across four rounds of the national series, representing the Horsham region among Australia’s top off-road racers.

“The first round was at Rainbow - that was my first time ever in the buggy,” he said.

“I got fourth place there, which was a great start.”

Round two took the team to Waikerie, South Australia, where they impressed again.

“We competed there and I got second place,” he said.

“Then we went to Queensland, but that race got cancelled because of floods and windy conditions.”

The championship concluded in Millicent, South Australia, where mechanical issues challenged their run.

“We finished fifth in that one due to a belt breaking and a ball joint failing, but we still completed it,” he said.

“That led to us getting second overall in the championship for our first-ever year racing off-road, which we thought was really good.”

Grayson said the season was ‘a learning curve’ as he transitioned from motorcycles to four-wheel racing.

“I’ve done plenty of motorbike stuff, but this was our first time with four wheels,” he said.

“We’re really looking forward to next year and hoping to find more local businesses to jump on board and help us out.”

He credited local businesses, including Buildpro - Horsham, ALK Property Maintenance, and Southern Mallee Rail Freighters, as well as South East Marine & Motorcycles from South Australia, for their support throughout the year.

“It was a pretty big achievement for me, the pit crew, and my navigator,” he said.

“It’s a big ask from everyone, the preparation, the cost, the travel.

“Especially my wife, after having twin boys five months ago.”

Grayson plans to stay in Class 6 - the Pro Side-by-Side category - next season.

“We’ll try and get the crown for that class before we move up and look at upgrading the buggy down the track,” he said.

He also shared a message of gratitude to his hometown.

“A big thanks to the Horsham community for jumping on board and supporting something that’s a little different to just the football and netball scene,” Grayson said.
