Longerenong College Showcases Agricultural Excellence Across Victoria
It’s been a bustling season for Longerenong College, with students and staff actively engaging in events across the region since the last edition of The Wimmera Farmer.

A standout moment came when Longerenong’s Wool Classing students were invited to judge fleeces and sheep ‘on the hoof’ in the Dohne Pavilion at the prestigious Australian Sheep and Wool Show in Bendigo.
As the only tertiary institution represented at the event, the students proudly showcased their skills and knowledge, thanks to the generous support of the Australian Dohne Breeders’ Association.
Longerenong College continues to strengthen its connection with both farmers and future agricultural professionals.
Over the past month, the College has participated in a range of events including the Ballarat Careers & Futures Festival at Ballarat Grammar, Sheepvention in Hamilton, the Mallee Machinery Field Days at Speed, the Goolum Goolum Pathways Expo in Horsham, and the Naracoorte Pathways to a Pay Packet.
The enthusiasm from young people exploring careers in agriculture has been incredibly encouraging.
On August 10, Longerenong hosted its annual Open Day, drawing around 250 visitors to the campus.
This year’s event featured expanded displays and information sessions, including dedicated rooms for Scholarships and Apprenticeships, Short Courses, student ‘Life at Longy’, drone and data centre demonstrations, agronomy in the soil labs, and a historical exhibit of the College’s legacy.
Attendees enjoyed guided walking tours and bus tours that highlighted the Wool Classing Room, Show Steers demonstrations, and the RAGT research facility.
Applications for 2026 are now open, and interest has surged following the Open Day.
With only around 120 rooms available, prospective students are eager to secure accommodation early to experience the full “study and living at Longerenong” lifestyle.
In another exciting development, thanks to the generosity of Longerenong College sponsor WEED-IT AUSTRALIA, two second-year students - Louise Cooper from Moyston and Elise Bibby from Stawell - have been given the opportunity to attend the Women Together Learning (WoTL) 2025 Thriving Women Conference in Wagga Wagga.
The event offers a platform for women in agriculture to hear from inspiring speakers and build valuable connections within the industry.
Longerenong College remains committed to cultivating the next generation of agricultural leaders and innovators, and the recent flurry of activity is a testament to that mission.
