Show committee calls for community support

“Do you want the Warracknabeal Show to continue? Then we need you.” This is the message from the Warracknabeal Show Committee as it calls on residents to attend an upcoming community meeting aimed at securing the future of the 137-year-old event.

The committee will host an open meeting at the Yarriambiack Shire Offices on Wednesday, July 29, from 7 pm to 8 pm, inviting community members to learn how they can help keep the show running.

Committee member Sharlene McGinniss said volunteers were urgently required to reduce the workload on existing members and ensure this year’s event could proceed.

“Our local Show has been part of the fabric of our community for generations,” she said.

“It’s a place where families come together, children make memories, local talent is celebrated, and our agricultural and rural community is proudly put on display.”

The committee is seeking volunteers of all backgrounds and ages, stressing that no previous experience is necessary and that every contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a difference.

“For our Show to progress this year, we need help,” she said.

“The Show belongs to all of us, and we want to throw the doors open and invite the community to come together, share ideas and help us breathe new life into this much-loved local event.”

Mrs McGinniss noted the committee was looking for people who wanted to see the Warracknabeal Show continue for future generations.

“We’re looking for people who care about our community and want to see the Show continue for future generations,” she said.

“Whether you have an idea, a practical skill or simply a willingness to help, we’d love to hear from you.”

Mrs McGinniss said the society was particularly encouraging young families to attend the meeting, recognising that volunteering on Show Day was not always possible.

Anyone interested in supporting the future of the 137-year-old Warracknabeal Show is encouraged to attend the meeting or contact committee member Sharlene McGinnis on 0408 518 629.
